About us

For people who take their ice seriously.

NuggetLab is an independent review site run by nugget-ice obsessives. We research countertop and undercounter nugget ice makers, compare them side by side, and publish what we find — including the parts that aren’t flattering.

It started with a simple frustration: nugget ice is the best ice in the world, and the advice about which machine to buy was almost entirely copy-pasted spec sheets. So we started comparing published specifications and owner feedback to understand how these machines perform in everyday use.

What we look for

Every machine we review is scored on the same four things. No machine gets a badge for being cheap, and no machine gets a pass for being expensive.

Ice quality

Texture first. We look at owner feedback about texture, clumping, and taste.

Production speed

Time to the first batch, then steady output over a full day. A machine that makes 40 lb on paper but can’t keep up when the bin runs dry isn’t a 40 lb machine.

Noise & everyday usability

Compressor hum, how loud it gets at night, how awkward the water tank and scoop are to live with, and whether cleaning takes minutes or an afternoon.

Long-term reliability

Warranty terms, parts availability, service network, and what owner reviews say about the machine after six months of daily use.

Where the numbers come from

Star ratings

Ratings combine what published owner reviews say with our own scoring. We re-check them every few months, because a machine that rates 4.4 today can drift if a manufacturer quietly changes a part. Where a model is too new for a reliable public figure, we say so rather than invent one.

Prices

Prices show what we last saw at the retailer, including any sale or list price we recorded. Nugget ice machine prices move constantly, so the Check price button on every card takes you straight to the retailer, where the live number always shows.

Specs

Output, tank size and dimensions come from the manufacturer’s published figures. Where owner feedback raises questions about published specifications, we explain the differences.

How this site is funded

NuggetLab is reader-supported. Some links on this site are affiliate links — if you buy through one, the retailer pays us a commission at no extra cost to you.

That commission doesn’t decide what makes the list. Rankings are ordered by our own scoring, and we’re just as happy telling you to buy the cheaper machine as the one that pays us more. If a model we recommended stops holding up, we change the review rather than bury it.
